Donald Trump faced criticism on Friday for sharing a video that shows President Joe Biden tied up and silenced in the back of a pickup truck on his Truth Social account.
The video, titled “3/28/24 | LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK…” and set to serious orchestral music, shows a pickup truck speeding in the rain with Trump campaign ads and a so-called “thin blue line” American flag flying off its back.
At the back of the truck is a sticker imagining what’s in its covered bed: a tied up and silenced Biden lying on his side, as if kidnapped.
Some users on X defended former President Trump over the post, with one calling liberals “hypocrites” for being upset over the clip but previously defending Kathy Griffin for taking a picture with a fake severed head of Trump in 2017.
But mostly, observers were shocked that a former president and current Republican party presidential nominee would endorse such violent imagery.
“Anyone else would’ve been locked up by now,” wrote political strategist Lindy Li on X, reprimanding Trump’s behavior on social media.
“We do not need this mentally unstable man back in the Oval Office,” the account for Republicans Against Trump wrote.
“Imagine if Joe Biden tweeted out a video of someone driving down the road with an image of Trump tied up in the back of a pickup truck,” producer and filmmaker Morgan J. Freeman added.
