The Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress suggested that President Bola Tinubu should not be influenced by some supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who recently expressed their loyalty, as it is an effort to persuade him into gaining their allegiance.
A former Minister of Transport and leader of the Rivers chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abiye Sekibo, together with former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, and some party leaders, pledged support for the President and his policies at a press conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, as stated by a former Minister of Transportation and leader of the Rivers chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abiye Sekibo, who led former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, and some party chieftains at a press conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital on Thursday.
Other members of the delegation included former governorship aspirant, Celestine Omehia and former lawmaker, Austin Opara.
They also expressed their discontent with the current political situation in the state and urged the President to advise ex-Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
In response through a press conference at the party national secretariat in Abuja on Friday, Chairman of Rivers APC, Tony Okocha, informed the press that he found it amusing that individuals like Sekibo and Secondus, who previously spoke poorly of the president during the 2023 presidential election campaign, were now insincerely trying to win his favor.
Okocha cautioned Tinubu that they are ‘unrepentant PDP praise singers’ who can never forgive him and Wike due to the way they contributed to Atiku's loss in the last election, describing them as being crafty and deceitful.
According to him, “The undeniable fact remains that all those who lined up at that table are still passionate supporters of Atiku Abubakar and clearly identified themselves as unwavering leaders of Atiku’s 2023 Presidential Campaign in Rivers State. Even the large banner behind the table they sat at still displayed the picture and name of Atiku Abubakar. It was deliberate and intentional.
“These individuals can never forgive Tinubu, Wike and APC Rivers over their significant electoral loss. Therefore, anyone who contributed to their downfall is now their sworn enemy, and they are secretly aiming to retaliate against the FCT minister. We strongly oppose it.
“Nigerians know the unique events that occurred in five PDP-controlled states in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election and its aftermaths.
“This group of demonstrators not only vigorously campaigned against Asiwaju, but also propagated and funded hateful speeches against him. They promoted false narratives claiming that Tinubu was frail, extremely old, mentally senile, and unfit to lead Nigeria.
