Rev. Al Sharpton criticized former President Donald Trump for selling $60 Bibles in the week before Easter.
The activist went on “Morning Joe” on Thursday to discuss Trump making money from a religious text, specifically promoting the Lee Greenwood Bible with a Trump-specific referral code.
On the show, Sharpton expressed his concern about ministers and conservative evangelicals using the Trump Bible during Good Friday and Easter church services. He suggested that they should lose their positions for trying to profit off the Bible during this time.
Sharpton also mentioned that selling the Bibles during Easter weekend makes the situation even worse.
He emphasized the offensiveness of selling the Bibles during Holy Week, calling it a disrespect to those who truly believe in the Bible from a Christian perspective.
The host and activist compared Trump’s sale of items like pieces of his suit and sneakers to the actions of deceitful evangelists who sell fake religious items.
Sharpton also pointed out that Trump has sold pieces of his garments and is now selling sneakers and Bibles, comparing his actions to those of old hustlers. Sharpton also questioned the commitment of the evangelical community for not speaking out against this during Holy Week.
