The Gombe State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has given the state government and university management a two-week ultimatum to address its requests.
As per a resolution from the meeting disclosed by our contact in Gombe, signed by branch chairman Dr. Suleiman Jauro and Dr. M. Muhammad, the branch stated it would consider other lawful options if necessary.
The meeting expressed concern about the state's economic situation, which has greatly impacted the members who are owed money.
The resolution stated,“During the congress meeting today, March 28, 2024, the Academic Staff Union of Universities Gombe State University chapter discussed at length issues affecting its members' well-being.
The congress disapproved of the university's failure to address issues impacting the well-being of its members, which is currently affecting the morale of academic staff at the university.
“Staff morale has been decreasing due to the university's failure to address staff welfare amidst the socio-economic challenges in the country.”
The congress criticized the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowance from 2015/2016 to 2023, as well as the non-payment of promotion and other arrears from 2020 to 2022. It warned that if the authorities do not listen, it will take other actions to fulfill its demands.
