Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has urged the state's residents not to worry, and reassured them that his government will protect their lives and property.
He promised to do everything within the law to enhance and safeguard the shared hopes of the people, stating that he should be allowed to complete his term.
Fubara made this statement on Wednesday while speaking to members of the Family Support Group during their visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The support comes amidst the ongoing political conflict between Fubara and his former political mentor and predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Last October, Fubara survived an attempt to remove him from office by lawmakers who support Wike.
The Family Support Group, which consists of youths, women, and men from the three senatorial districts and 23 local government areas of Rivers State, declared their support for the governor on Wednesday.
This was revealed in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.
As per the statement, the group was received on behalf of Fubara by the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke.
The governor stated, “The entire Rivers State confirms that we won the election fairly and we deserve to serve our full term. There will be no disruption to the popular mandate that you all gave to this administration.”
Nwaeke mentioned that shortly after taking office, Fubara initiated the Port Harcourt Ring Road project, which will span six local governments.
He stated that although the project was supposed to take 36 months, the completion date might be even sooner “because the progress of work we have seen exceeds our expectations.”
“The official main Trans-Kalabari Road will soon commence from Port Harcourt. There have been extensive plans for that road, and soon you will see contractors on site, opening up Rivers State.
“Just yesterday, you heard in the news that the governor has begun the construction of the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Road. Initially, it was a single lane, but now it will be dualised. The government has already granted the contract,” he added.
Nwaeke encouraged the people of Rivers State to continue supporting Fubara.
“I want to thank you for the commitment you have made, and I urge you to remain resolute. Keep your promise to support him at all times.
“When you hear anything negative, stand up for the governor, and inform people about what you know about him. Share the information about his efforts to develop the state and its people,” he added.
Fubara is entangled in a political conflict with his former political mentor and predecessor, Nyesom Wike. He survived an attempt to remove him from office last October.
During the 2023 elections, the President General of the Family Support Group, Mr. Henry Abraham, recalled that they were urged to vote and protect their votes because the process was free of violence and credible.
Abraham stated that when they protect their votes, they will also protect the person they voted for. The group believes Rivers State belongs to everyone and should not be controlled by one person, but rather by all the people of Rivers State.
“Sir Siminalayi Fubara, be strong. The Family Support Group, along with the coordinators and executives of all the wards and LGAs, as well as the officers of the National Executive Committee, our leaders, and the PDP, stand by you.”
