Martin Scorsese has made an agreement with Fox Nation, the paid streaming service of Fox News, to lead, tell and produce an eight-part docudrama named “The Saints.”
The series, starting with the first section in November, will delve into the tales of saints from the past, such as Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi, John the Baptist, Thomas Becket, Mary Magdalene, and more. Each episode will center on the journey to faith of a single saint. “The Saints” will be divided into two parts, with the second set of episodes scheduled for May 2025.
“These are accounts of eight very different individuals, each of them enduring vastly different eras and striving to adhere to the path of love shown to them and to us by Jesus’ words in the gospels,” Scorsese expressed in a statement. “I’m thrilled that this project is now happening, and that I’m collaborating with so many trusted and talented partners.”
Fox News Media chief digital and marketing officer Jason Klarman disclosed the collaboration on Wednesday, stating in a release, “Having the greatest storyteller relate some of the greatest stories of all time is exactly the kind of exclusive content that is propelling Fox Nation’s success. It’s a privilege to welcome the globally renowned Martin Scorsese to the Fox Nation platform.”
Fox Nation is the network’s direct-to-consumer streaming service that enhances the Fox News Channel with special content designed for regular Fox viewers. The service currently offers nearly 10,000 hours of programming consisting of lifestyle, entertainment, historical documentaries, and investigative reports. The Academy Award-winning filmmaker has recently expressed interest in pursuing projects related to religion, telling the Los Angeles Times in January that he had completed a screenplay for a film about Jesus.
The film is cowritten by Kent Jones based on the book “A Life of Jesus,” by Shūsaku Endō. It will shoot later this year, Scorsese said.
