'Love Lies Bleeding' breakout star Katy O'Brian has been added to the cast of 'Mission: Impossible 8' for Paramount Pictures and Skydance, according to someone with inside information about the project.
In a prior announcement about a change in the film roster, Paramount notably referred to the movie simply as 'Mission: Impossible' rather than its previous full title of 'Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part Two,' indicating a potential name modification for the upcoming sequel, which is a direct continuation of the storyline from 'Dead Reckoning, Part One' that was released in theaters last July.
Production on 'Mission: Impossible 8' resumed last summer after it was paused to allow the film's cast, led by Tom Cruise, to promote 'Dead Reckoning: Part One,' which made a total of $567.5 million at the global box office, despite strong competition from Warner Bros.' 'Barbie' and Universal's 'Oppenheimer.'
The popular action spy movie series centers on Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt and his global adventures as part of the Impossible Mission Force. Some of the previous supporting actors expected to return are Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff.
The new additions to the cast of “Mission Impossible 8” are Hannah Waddingham, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman and Janet McTeer.
O'Brian gained attention for her recent role in Rose Glass's romantic thriller, 'Love Lies Bleeding,' alongside Kristen Stewart. In that movie, O'Brian plays Jackie, a budding bodybuilder who relocates to rural Nevada and becomes embroiled in the tumultuous world of performance-enhancing drugs after falling for a gym employee.
O'Brian has previously portrayed Comms Officer Elia Kane in Disney+'s 'The Mandalorian' and freedom fighter Jentorra in 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.' On television, her appearances include 'The Rookie,' 'Magnum P.I.,' 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' 'Westworld,' 'The Walking Dead,' and 'Z Nation,' among others.
Up next, O'Brian will appear in Universal Pictures' upcoming sequel, 'Twisters,' where she will star opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. Set to be released on July 19, the film is a continuation of the 1996 cult classic 'Twister.'
O'Brian is represented by Gersh, Luber Roklin Entertainment, RCM Talent & Management, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
