Transit riders who rely on the services will soon need to pay more. TransLink services will soon have to pay more.
It's time for the yearly TransLink fare increase, and TransLink officials met on Wednesday morning to discuss it.
Fares are expected to go up by 2.3% by July, leading to an increase of five to 10 cents per trip for Metro Vancouver riders.
The transit authority's latest investment plan also proposes a four percent increase in 2025, a three percent increase in 2026, and then yearly increases of two percent until 2033.
The plan also suggests a one-time increase in Metro Vancouver property taxes this year by $80 million, which will cost $37 more for the average property owner.
According to TransLink, the funds would help cover service increases and a $4.7-billion funding gap.
