Jeffrey Clark, who attempted to assist ex-president Donald Trump in overturning an election, is now undergoing a disciplinary proceeding. Witnesses are testifying to disturbing events, including Clark's belief that 'smart thermostats' were used to manipulate voting machines.
Before the deadly attack on January 6th, 2021, Trump planned to replace Justice Department leadership with Jeffrey Clark, who was willing to take on the role.
Jeffrey Clark, a senior official in DOJ under Trump, is facing a disciplinary proceeding that could lead to him losing his law license. He is accused of making false claims as he tried to involve the agency in Trump's attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss.
According to the disciplinary counsel of the District of Columbia Bar, Mr. Clark's actions at the Department of Justice amounted to an attempted coup, as stated in opening arguments on Tuesday.
Here a coup, there a coup, everywhere a coup, coup.
Clark's lawyer denies that there was an attempted coup at the DOJ, claiming instead that there was an “internal debate and disagreement.”
Clark, whom Trump tried to install as the “acting” head of the DOJ, is accused of pressuring DOJ leaders to act on false claims of election fraud in an effort to help Trump overturn election results in various states.
Former deputy White House counsel Pat Philbin provided his first public testimony about the events at the DOJ during Trump's attempt to seize power and overturn U.S. democracy. During his testimony, Philbin stated that Clark was “wildly misinformed about claims of election fraud and entertained a theory about 'smart thermostats' being used to manipulate voting machines, without understanding the potential havoc it could cause if his plan succeeded.”
Philbin, as reported by Politico, described Clark as a true believer who thought he had the opportunity “to do something about it.”
When Philbin warned Clark that there would be riots in every major American city if Trump reversed the election outcome, Clark responded, “Well, Pat, that’s what the Insurrection Act is for.”
Clark aimed to deploy U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion resulting from Trump's refusal to accept the election outcome.
The significance of this testimony extends beyond the willingness of individuals to sacrifice their careers for baseless conspiracy theories. It focuses on Trump and his collaborators at Project 2025 planning how to avoid being stopped in the future.
Trump and his supporters didn't hesitate to consider using the U.S. military against U.S. citizens to remain in control. This is the mindset of a ruler, not a leader of a democratic nation.
