A bystander helped in the capture of a West Kelowna man who reportedly used a knife to threaten a security guard.
The Kelowna RCMP received a call about an incident on Banks Road on Monday night at just after 10 p.m.
At the scene, they discovered the suspect being restrained, and then the officers took control of the situation.
According to the Kelowna RCMP, after speaking with witnesses, it was found that the man was asked to leave the area, but he became aggressive and spat at the security guard.
The RCMP stated, "Security tried to arrest the man, but they both fell. It was then that the suspect allegedly took out a knife and threatened the security guard with it."
The police mentioned that a bystander stepped in and stopped the suspect from using the knife, helping to restrain him until the officers arrived.
The Kelowna RCMP reported that the 49-year-old suspect was charged with assault, making threats, and carrying a dangerous weapon.
He was kept in custody overnight and then released with a court date on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Cpl. Michael Gauthier stated, "The actions of this individual are worrying, and the police suggested that he be detained to prevent similar incidents in the future."
The security guard and another bystander were fortunate not to be hurt during this violent incident.
