Saskatoon Blades forward Rhett Melnyk has experienced a lot during his 220-game tenure in the Western Hockey League, but has not participated in the playoffs as a 19-year-old.
After playing for Tri-City and then captaining Edmonton at the start of the season, Melnyk was traded to the Blades in late October in exchange for young forward Smyth Rebman to bring more veteran experience to the team.
This has led to Melnyk becoming an important part of Saskatoon's lineup during the 2023-24 WHL season, and he will make his playoff debut on Thursday night as the Blades take on the Prince Albert Raiders in Game 1 of their opening round series.
Melnyk talked with Global Sports’ Scott Roblin about his excitement for playoff hockey, his admiration for Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Toews, and how he learned the game from his family in the most recent episode of ‘Blades Bio.’
