The Buffalo Bills decided not to pick a wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in the 2014 NFL Draft and also passed when he became a free agent in 2022. However, one insider thinks they might go for it this time.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggested that Buffalo could be a good fit for Beckham, who is currently a free agent after spending one inconsistent season with the Baltimore Ravens. Despite strong interest from the Miami Dolphins and a reported contract offer, Davenport believes the Bills could step in if no agreement is reached.
“If the deal with the Dolphins falls through, there’s another AFC East team that could use Beckham’s services,” Davenport wrote. “The Buffalo Bills signed Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins to replace Gabe Davis, who left, but those receivers primarily play in the slot. The Bills need a big receiver on the outside opposite Stefon Diggs, and Beckham could fill that role—and have a real chance at a second Super Bowl.”
Bills May Need to Act Quickly
While Davenport identified the Bills as a strong match for Beckham, he mentioned that their interest might not matter. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Beckham and the Dolphins had a meeting last week and both want to reach a contract agreement.
However, Fowler added that it’s far from certain.
“Odell Beckham met with the Miami Dolphins this past week and I was told the Dolphins are definitely interested,” Fowler said on SportsCenter, via Bleacher Report. The price point is likely to be a key factor, as they are not willing to overspend at this point due to limited funds. They have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but they are looking to pair them with an experienced receiver. So, there is some mutual interest.”
Davenport also noted that Beckham did not live up to his $15 million in guarantees from the Ravens, with 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.
Bills Previously Linked to Odell Beckham Jr.
The Bills faced criticism for passing on both Beckham and Mike Evans in the 2014 NFL Draft, choosing Sammy Watkins with the No. 4 overall pick instead. While Watkins was considered a sure bet, his career was marked by injuries and inconsistent performance, and he only spent three seasons in Buffalo.
The Bills had been connected to Beckham more recently, including public efforts to recruit him. The Bills' edge rusher, who was Beckham's teammate on the Super Bowl-winning Los Angeles Rams in 2021, expressed Von Millerstrong belief that Beckham would join the Bills the following year. “He’s coming to the Bills. He’s coming to the Bills,”
in an appearance on Richard Sherman’s podcast in October 2022. “It’s already said and done. He’s coming to the Bills. We’re down a couple of receivers, man… When it’s said and done, we know where Odell is going to be at man.” Miller said Miller’s confidence was misplaced, as Beckham ended up sitting out the entire 2022 season while rehabbing a torn ACL and then joined the Ravens the following season.
The Buffalo Bills could take wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from the Miami Dolphins if they fail to sign him, according to an insider.
