“ER” star Noah Wyle will reteam with John Wells on a new Max medical series.
Wyle will both act in and be an executive producer for “The Pitt,” which is produced by John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Max has ordered 15 episodes for the drama series, which was announced by the streaming service on Tuesday.
This new series will provide a realistic view of the challenges that healthcare workers face in today’s America, focusing on the heroes working in a modern hospital in Pittsburgh.
R. Scott Gemmill, known for his work on “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “ER,” and “JAG,” will be the showrunner and write the first episode of the series. Gemmill, Wyle, and Wells, who previously collaborated on “ER,” will executive produce the series. Wells worked as the showrunner and executive producer for the NBC medical drama, with Gemmill joining in the show’s sixth season.
Gemmill, Wyle, and Wells expressed their gratitude to Warner Bros. Television and Max for the opportunity to revisit the world of urban medicine in a joint statement. They mentioned that the challenges faced by those working in modern medicine have become more significant in the past fifteen years, and they are eager to portray the lives of these heroic individuals with dramatic realism and medical accuracy.
Other executive producers from John Wells Productions are Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan, and Michael Hissrich. John Wells Productions has an ongoing deal with Warner Bros. Television.
Sarah Aubrey, the head of Max Original Programming, praised the collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, and Noah Wyle to develop the new series, expressing enthusiasm for the project's potential to deliver a captivating and authentic portrayal of today’s medical world.
