The Lagos State Task Force, with CSP Shola Jejeloye as Chairman, has increased efforts to enforce the ban on motorcycles in restricted areas across the state.
In a statement sent to The PUNCH on Sunday, agency spokesperson Gbadeyan Abdulraheem reported the confiscation of 470 motorcycles during a weeklong operation in the state.
The state government prohibited commercial motorcycles to ensure safety on major highways.
Last November, 1,500 seized motorcycles were destroyed at the Lagos State Task Force premises in Oshodi following the crackdown on okada operators who had returned to the roads.
Abdulraheem, in the Sunday statement, mentioned, “The operation, covering various strategic locations such as Berger, Fagba, Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja, 2nd Rainbow, FESTAC, First Gate, Alakija, Mile 2, Ilasan, Maroko, Lekki, Ikota, and Chevron, led to the seizure of 150, 120, and 250 motorcycles respectively from these areas.”
He cited Chairman Jejeloye as saying, “Any sensible okada operator would now realize that it is no longer business as usual. Our operations have been specific and consistent, indicating no place for okada in Lagos.”
Jejeloye stressed the state government's steadfast commitment to eradicating Okada operations, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's THEMES PLUS Agenda.
