Donald Trump has a deadline until Monday to pay a $454 million bond he owes to New York. Attorney General Letitia James has already filed judgments in Westchester County where Trump has a golf resort and private estate. This was mentioned by former principal deputy solicitor general and lawyer Neal Katyal. Neal Katyal mentioned this to Jen Psaki on her MSNBC show, suggesting a comparison with the famous mafia leader Don Vito Corleone from 'The Godfather.' Katyal also explained that Trump's lawyers claim he cannot obtain the money in time, while Trump himself states otherwise on his social media platform, Truth Social. Katyal sees this as indicative of Trump's overall issues.
Katyal mentioned that seizing Trump's properties will not be swift, but James could file liens on any other property and also impose bank levies on Trump's accounts. This was provided as a cautionary note by Katyal.
If Trump fails to make his payment by Monday, James can start seizing his properties the following day. New York real estate attorneys believe the process will not be easy, and the first step would be sending a letter of garnishment to every bank in New York to freeze Trump's accounts.
Trump has been criticizing James repeatedly on Truth Social. He accused her of having a terrible record on violent crime and called the judge in the case incompetent and corrupt. he wroteJust a few minutes apart, Trump criticized the judge in the case for undervaluing Mar-a-Lago in order to create a false narrative. He claimed he should receive no fine in the case.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has already filed judgments on Trump's properties in Westchester County. he added, “The Judge in the A.G. case FRAUDULENTLY UNDERVALUED MAR-A-LAGO AT $18,000,000 IN ORDER TO CREATE HIS FAKE NARRATIVE. HE IS GROSSSLY INCOMPETENT AND CORRUPT! I SHOULD HAVE ZERO FINE.”
If Trump does not make his payment on Monday, James can begin to seize his properties the next day. The process won’t be easy, New York real estate attorneys told The Guardian. The first step will likely be a letter of garnishment sent from the AG’s office to every bank in New York, the outlet adds, which will freeze Trump’s accounts.
