The abductors of the chairman of the Edo State People's Democratic Party, Tony Aziegbemi, have contacted his family and asked for N500m ransom.
The gunmen kidnapped Aziegbemi on March 15 at around 11pm on Idaro Street, off Country Home Road, Benin, Edo State.
Aziegbemi was taken while he was on his way home in his car after leaving a meeting at the Government House. His driver was present during the kidnapping.
A family member, speaking anonymously, told journalists in Benin on Sunday about the ransom demand.
The source added that the abductors made contact with his family on Friday.
The source revealed that the kidnappers asked for ₦500 million to release Aziegbemi.
The source stated, 'The kidnappers have reached out to Tony Aziegbemi's family, and they have requested N500 million ransom.'
“I don’t know what the family members are doing to raise the money or if the party, the PDP, is doing anything to assist them.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police were not aware of the ransom demand.
“I am not aware of any ransom demand. I can only confirm what I am aware of,” he said.
