Some criminals believed to be bandits have caused the death of two people during Ramadan prayer on Saturday at Mairuwa village in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The spokesperson for the Kastina State Police Command, Abubakar Aliyu, revealed this in a phone conversation with PUNCH Online on Sunday
Sadiq stated that the suspected bandits attacked the village, resulting in the death of two individuals as per initial investigations, and also kidnapped some residents during the prayers.
Those taken captive were subsequently rescued by police officers alongside other security personnel.
“On the 23rd March, 2024, at exactly 8:30pm, some suspected bandits assaulted Mairuwa village during Ramadan prayers, they went there to abduct and as a consequence, they shot and killed two individuals.
“They abducted several individuals. Our men, in collaboration with community watch corps and vigilantes, confronted the bandits in a shootout
“The security forces managed to fend off the attack, thus saving all the kidnapped victims,” he said.
Sadiq added that the command had initiated inquiries into the incident, and measures were being taken to apprehend the culprits.
