Saskatoon Police Service will use new federal funding to establish a specialized team focused on addressing human trafficking incidents in the city.
The specific funding amount is not known, but it will be given over two years to create the Saskatoon Police Service Human Trafficking Response Team.
Officials stated that the team will have two full-time positions, both of which have been filled. The human trafficking responder will collaborate with investigators to offer assistance to victims and survivors, ensuring they understand how to navigate the justice system.
The human trafficking liaison will collaborate with Indigenous Resource Officers and other community partners to create and provide training for prosecutors and first responders.
