MIKEY CUMBO
Dallas
Senior
Best Player Of The Year
During Cumbo’s three years as a starter, Dallas had a 69-17 record and won its first district title in 38 years in 2022. He was an all-around player who could shoot from the outside, drive to the basket, fight for rebounds inside, and handle the ball as needed. He led the whole WVC by making 81.4% of his free throws, was second in Division 1 in scoring with an average of 17.6, and made 38 3-pointers.
NOAH DEWEY
Hanover Area
Junior
The 6-foot-5 Dewey showed great improvement this season. He scored a WVC-leading 455 points during the regular season, compared to just 79 points in his sophomore year. He led Division 2 with an average of 20.7 points per game and also made 68.4% of his free throws. He was a strong presence inside on both ends of the court.
LUKE GENNARO
Hazleton Area
Senior
The two-time Times Leader All-WVC selection didn’t need to be the main scorer this season. Instead, he used his point guard skills to run the offense and help his teammates score. He still had good numbers with an average of 10.4 points, 25 3-pointers, and 61.7% accuracy from the foul line.
JAIDYN JOHNSON
Nanticoke Area
Senior
The three-time Times Leader All-WVC selection missed some games due to a facial injury, but came back to finish second in Division 2 in scoring with an average of 20.3 points and a 59.5% free-throw shooting rate. He expanded his game beyond the paint with 20 3-pointers, but still remained a threat inside.
EVAN LAYBOURN-BODDIE
Wilkes-Barre Area
Senior
Laybourn-Boddie, who transferred from West Scranton, was named the Division 1 MVP by the coaches in his only season with the Wolfpack. He led the entire WVC in scoring with an average of 22.2 points and 66 3-pointers. He also made 60.5% of his free throws and scored his 1,000th career point in the postseason.
JOE MARSHALL
Hazleton Area
Senior
A two-year starter, Marshall did a lot of the unnoticed work in the paint by battling for rebounds and playing tough defense. He also improved his scoring average for a second year in a row to 11 points. He made 58.6% of his free throws and has been contributing since his sophomore year.
DAVID POPSON
Holy Redeemer
Junior
Popson moved from Hanover Area and became one of the most improved players in the WVC. He provided rebounding and defensive support inside while also increasing his offensive output. He led Division 2 by making 75.6% of his free throws and had an average of 12.3 points.
DANE SCHUTTER
Wyoming Area
Senior
Schutter has been on the varsity team since his freshman year. He was chosen as the Division 2 MVP by the coaches. The two-time Times Leader All-WVC selection reached his 1,000th career point in the middle of the season. He was third in the division with an average of 17.6 points and made 65% of his free throws.
GEORGE SABATINI
Holy Redeemer
Senior
In his first year as a starter, Sabatini played well all over the court. He was most effective inside, where he averaged 11.8 points and used his great jumping ability to fight for rebounds. He could also handle the ball on the perimeter as needed. He made 70.6% of his free throws.
RYAN SONES
MMI Prep
Senior
Sones played a big part in the Preppers winning the District 2 Class A title and reaching the state quarterfinals. The three-year starter finished fourth in Division 2 with an average of 17.4 points. He made 67.6% of his free throws and had a team-high 34 3-pointers.
