One person, who Edmonton police claim started a fire at a building in the Capilano neighborhood, was transported to the hospital early Saturday morning.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) stated teams arrived at the fire around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
EFRS indicated the request initially came from Edmonton police, who were addressing a break-in call inside the building, situated near 74 Street and 101 Avenue.
The structure accommodates a variety of commercial enterprises on the ground floor with apartments above.
A representative for the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) mentioned officers were addressing a call from a business on the ground floor of the building.
“A fire started in the business, and emergency responders promptly cleared the building, including the suspect,” stated EPS spokesperson Cheryl Voordenhout.
Police mentioned the purported suspect was then taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“(He) will be facing charges, including arson. No other serious injuries were reported,” Voordenhout added.
Police stated the man was in hospital in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
EFRS mentioned the fire was extinguished around 5:31 a.m.
