The Green Bay Packers have had a busy offseason, especially in free agency, but fans were worried before the weekend about their new running back, Josh Jacobs.
YouTube personality and musician B. Lou featured in a video with Jacobs, in which they had a dirt bike accident. posted to X, Jacobs appears to be driving an ATV while pulling B. Lou on a dirt bike.
The pair were only able to travel a short distance before B. Lou flipped over and fell off the dirt bike.
Previous X posts, including one from Dov Kleiman, suggested that Jacobs was the one involved in the dirt bike accident. However, Jacobs promptly denied this on X.
Nevertheless, the video quickly gained attention on the internet. Thankfully, it seems that Jacobs and B. Lou did not sustain any serious injuries in the accident.
Josh Jacobs Emerges as Green Bay’s New Key Running Back
The start of free agency for the Packers was certainly eventful.
The Packers made a surprising move early in free agency by signing Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million deal. It appeared that the signing was meant to provide the Packers with a strong running game, with Jacobs partnering with star running back Aaron Jones.
However, shortly after signing Jacobs, the Packers revealed that they were letting go of Jones, a record-setting rusher for the iconic team.
Now, it will be up to Jacobs to lead the way for the Packers. The 26-year-old has spent his entire career with the Las Vegas Raiders since being drafted by them in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Despite experiencing ups and downs in his NFL journey, he has already secured two Pro Bowl appearances and a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022, after leading the league with 1,653 rushing yards.
Although he had a disappointing 2023 season with just 805 rushing yards on an average of 3.5 yards per carry, Jacobs is optimistic about bouncing back and delivering another standout season in 2024.
The Rest Of Green Bay’s Running Back Group
With Jones now playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Jacobs won’t be the only running back who needs to step up for the Packers.
The Packers managed to retain A.J. Dillon on a four-year player qualifying contract to keep him in Green Bay for at least one season. However, with a short-term contract and minimal impact on the salary cap, Dillon isn’t even guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster by the start of the regular season.
Instead, the Packers might rely on undrafted newcomer Emmanuel Wilson, who earned his place on the roster last season following a strong preseason. The 24-year-old capitalized on his 14 carries in the regular season, averaging 6.1 yards per carry, and could see increased action this season.
There is also a possibility that the Packers may draft another running back in the 2024 NFL Draft, but regardless of the outcome, Jacobs will be expected to handle the majority of the carries this season.
