A bus with over 40 prekindergarten students on a field trip crashed into a concrete truck in Texas, killing two people, according to authorities.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell mentioned that another vehicle was also part of the crash near Austin. He was unsure about the location of the victims.
Cockrell stated that several injured individuals were airlifted to hospitals, but he was unsure about the exact number.
The Hays Consolidated Independent School District reported that the bus was in a “serious accident” on its way back from a zoo field trip. There were 44 students and 11 adults on board, according to the district.
Following the crash, a large number of first responders and emergency vehicles were visible on the highway. The bus was upright but leaning to one side, with the top front portion crumpled. Personal items were scattered across the road.
The school district revealed that the students are from Tom Green Elementary School in Buda, approximately 16 miles (25 kilometers) southwest of Austin.
The school district assured that the parents of the students on the bus were informed about the accident and efforts were being made to bring them together.
