Over 10,000 Chrysler-Fiat vehicles in Canada are being recalled due to a potential issue with the airbag.
“Certain vehicles may have a problem with the side curtain airbag inflators,” Transport Canada’s recall states.
“As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could unexpectedly break and send metal pieces towards people in the vehicle.”
The recall was first announced on March 14 but was updated on Friday. It involves the 2018-2021 models of the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger, totaling 10,285 units.
According to The Canadian Press, Stellantis, the parent company, explains that moisture can enter the inflators due to a manufacturing issue, causing corrosion and cracks. Additionally, the airbags may inflate even without a collision due to high temperatures in the vehicle cabin.
The company mentioned that there have been no injuries or accidents related to the airbag problem, and the flaw is estimated to affect less than one percent of the recalled vehicles. It advises consumers to act on the recall notices.
Globally, 318,000 Dodge and Chrysler vehicles are impacted, according to the company.
