David Ayer has agreed to direct the film “Heart of the Beast” for Paramount Pictures, as revealed by a source familiar with the project. The plot focuses on a former Navy SEAL and his retired combat dog as they try to come back to society after a serious accident in the Alaskan wilderness.
Director Damien Chazelle and actress Olivia Hamilton are producing the movie under their company Wild Chickens Productions, as part of their initial agreement with the studio. Ayer and Chris Long will also be producing through their Cedar Park Entertainment company.
Cameron Alexander, the screenplay writer, will serve as an executive producer, while Richard Raymond will co-produce.
Ayer gained recognition for writing the successful film “Training Day,” featuring Denzel Washington, who won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance. Ayer's other works include “Suicide Squad” with Margot Robbie for DC and the World War II tank drama “Fury” with Brad Pitt.
“Heart of the Beast” marks the first full producer role for Oscar-winning filmmaker Chazelle, following his deal with the studio.
