Four individuals are charged with drug trafficking and other offenses after their vehicle was stopped in Peterborough, Ont., on Thursday evening.
According to the Peterborough Police Service, around 7 p.m., an officer on usual patrol in the area of Simcoe and Hunter streets recognized a suspicious vehicle that had been connected to an ongoing investigation by another police agency.
The officer, with the help of other officers and the canine unit, conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered and seized quantities of illegal substances. Four individuals in the vehicle were taken into custody.
A 44-year-old man from Peterborough, and two women aged 25 and 27, also from Peterborough, were arrested and charged with possessing a Schedule 1 substance with the intent to traffic (cocaine). The 27-year-old woman also faces an additional trafficking charge involving fentanyl. They were also charged with holding property obtained through criminal means valued at less than $5,000.
They were all released and are set to appear in court in Peterborough on April 9.
A 32-year-old man from Cavan Monaghan Township, Ont., was charged with two counts of possessing substances with the intent to traffic (cocaine and other drugs), as well as personation with intent to evade arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice, obstructing a peace officer, possessing property obtained through criminal means valued at less than $5,000, and failing to comply with an appearance notice.
He was kept in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on Friday.
