A 34-year-old man has been charged with assault after a senior was shoved face-first into a SkyTrain car earlier this month.
Metro Vancouver Transit Police announced that the incident occurred on March 11 at Granville Station.
The 70-year-old victim was waiting for the train when he heard shouting behind him, the police reported.
The man did not respond to the shouting, but when the train arrived at the station, the suspect grabbed and violently pushed him from behind, the police stated.
“The victim was pushed with such force that he hit the train head first and fell to the ground,” the police stated in the release.
“Several passengers stepped in, placing themselves between the victim and the suspect to prevent the suspect from approaching the victim while he was on the ground. ”
The victim underwent surgery for head and facial injuries at the hospital, according to the police.
The suspect fled but was later identified and apprehended.
Tyler Meetoos has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.
He has been released from custody with an order prohibiting him from entering SkyTrain stations, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 28.
