A 31-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal stabbing in north-central Edmonton over the weekend.
Police have arrested Dakota Johnson and charged him with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon in connection with the death of 30-year-old Tjijandjeua Gift Tjaveondja, according to a news release on Thursday.
Law enforcement stated that Johnson and Tjaveondja were not acquainted.
The violence occurred early Sunday, around 12:15 a.m., according to the police. Law enforcement were summoned to a stabbing in the vicinity of 118th Avenue and 97th Street.Upon arrival, they discovered a wounded man who was subsequently taken to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy on Wednesday determined that Tjaveondja's cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.
“There was a reported altercation at 118th Avenue and 101st Street that may have led to Tjaveondja’s death,” police said. “Investigators suspect that others were also involved in the stabbing.”
