Authorities are looking into an incident where five students at a Halifax elementary school were hospitalized after ingesting cannabis-infused treats brought to the school by a classmate.
Halifax Regional Police stated on Thursday that they received a report of suspected drug ingestion by multiple students at Springvale Elementary around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
In an email, police Const. John MacLeod explained, “A student brought labeled packages of cannabis-infused treats from home and shared them with four other students.”
“The students were taken to the hospital for treatment.”
A message was sent to parents at the school on Wednesday evening, informing them about the incident via text and email.
The email urged, “Please take some time this evening to discuss with your children the importance of not sharing food or drinks with classmates, and not accepting them from others.”
“The safety and well-being of all our students is our top priority.”
Police have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway.
More details will follow.
