The Ekiti State Government has launched a program that offers free healthcare to more than 19,000 retirees.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, revealed this in a statement shared on the state government's platform on Thursday.
According to the statement, the Ekiti State Government has introduced complimentary healthcare services for over 19,000 pensioners who had previously served in the State and Local Government Public Services.
This move is part of the State Insurance Scheme, and was announced by the state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani #okeanaye, during a meeting at the Pensioners’ Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.
The commissioner also emphasized the importance of all pensioners attending awareness programs to understand the process and to be informed about the medical care facilities available.
PUNCH reported in February that the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, unveiled the N12bn Economic Relief Programme to relieve the suffering caused by the current global economic downturn.
The Economic Relief Programme involved the settlement of one-month salary arrears for state and local government workers, amounting to over N2.7bn.
Additionally, the governor sanctioned the payment of two months' worth of pension arrears for state and local government workers, totaling N1.5bn, as well as an increase in the monthly gratuity payment to state pensioners from N50m to N100m, and to local government pensioners to N100m.
