Jameis Winston hopes to be a starter again someday, but is prepared to be a great backup for the Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The Browns signed Winston to a one-year contract in free agency, which was somewhat unexpected. Winston, a former No. 1 overall draft pick, previously played four seasons with the New Orleans Saints. Initially, the Browns seemed likely to bring
back to serve as Watson's backup. However, things changed quickly with Winston's arrival. Joe Flacco “I firmly believe that nothing happens by chance,”
Winston stated on March 20 during his official introduction. “So, when this opportunity came about, we focused and communicated, and it seemed like a great fit for me.” Ultimately,
aims to become a starter again . Nevertheless, he takes his role as Watson’s backup seriously and feels he can contribute a lot.“I believe the most crucial thing is the relationship between me and Deshaun, which I think will continue to develop and thrive. I deeply admire him as a person and as a football player,” Winston mentioned. “I am eager to support him in any way he needs and also provide him with different resources that he may not have access to… just serving him and our team as best as I can.”
Jameis Winston Aims for Super Bowl Success With Browns
Winston mentioned that he first met Watson in 2014 when they were both in college, and they have kept in touch since. Winston respects Watson but emphasized that everyone, including himself, plays a role in the Browns’ success.
“One of the main things I bring to Deshaun is support and encouragement,” Winston said. “Because he has achieved so much, and that’s why he is this team’s franchise quarterback. But as many of us know, we all contribute to the team’s success.”
Winston has established himself as a
positive presence in the locker room over the years, bringing some humor with his personality. He demonstrated this on his first day in the Browns’ facility. A video surfaced of Winston taking snaps in a complete suit in the Browns’ weight room with backup center Luke Wypler. But make no mistake, Winston is determined to help the Browns win a Super Bowl.
“Every team’s goal at the start of the year should be winning football games and ultimately the Super Bowl. That is our main focus,” Winston stated. “As long as we share that same determination to bring this city what it deserves, I know we will be successful and we will bond well.”
Browns Also Bring in Tyler Huntley to QB Room
Winston is not the only new addition to the Browns QB room. The team recently acquired former
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley passer Huntley started several games for the Ravens when current.
Lamar Jackson NFL MVP was injured. He joined the Ravens as an undrafted rookie from Utah in 2020 and has a record of 3-6 as a starter. Overall, Huntley has
completed 64.6% of his passes He has thrown for 1,957 yards, gotten 8 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. His career quarterback rating is 79.0. The Browns' intentions for Huntley are unclear. He might compete with Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the backup role.
