Lawyers for the prosecution and defense anticipate giving their initial statements today in the trial for the murder of a Toronto police officer.
Umar Zameer denies the charge of first-degree murder in the killing of Const. Jeffrey Northrup.
Northrup, 55, was fatally hit by a vehicle while responding to a robbery in an underground garage at Toronto City Hall on July 2, 2021.
He served for 31 years in the Toronto police force.
Later today, jurors will hear from witnesses presented by the prosecution.
The trial is expected to continue until mid-April.
