The boys' basketball coaches of the Wyoming Valley Conference recently picked Evan Laybourn-Boddie, a senior from Wilkes-Barre Area, and Dane Schutter, a senior from Wyoming Area, as the most valuable players in their respective divisions.
Laybourn-Boddie was chosen in Division 1 while Schutter was selected in Division 2. Both players reached the milestone of scoring 1,000 career points this season.
Laybourn-Boddie moved from West Scranton. The combo guard was the top scorer in the entire WVC with an average of 22.2 points and made 63 3-point field goals. He had a 60.5% free throw shooting percentage.
Schutter has been a contributor since his first year. He ranked third in Division 2 in scoring with an average of 17.6 points and made 65% of his free throws. He made 13 3-pointers, fewer than last season, but played more inside on offense.
In addition to this, seniors Matt Sklarosky from Crestwood, Mikey Cumbo from Dallas, Luke Gennaro and Joe Marshall from Hazleton Area, and sophomore David Jannuzzi from Wilkes-Barre Area were also chosen for the Division 1 first team.
Additionally, junior Noah Dewey from Hanover Area, seniors George Sabatini and David Popson from Holy Redeemer, senior Ryan Sones from MMI Prep, and senior Jaidyn Johnson from Nanticoke Area were selected for the Division 2 first team.
Chaz Wright and Ayden Agapito from Crestwood, Zach Paczewski and Nick Williams from Dallas, and Paul Jordan McGarry from Pittston Area were chosen for the Division 1 second team.
Mark Atherton from Holy Redeemer, Brendon Brobst from MMI Prep, Liam Mullery from Nanticoke Area, Brady Noone from Wyoming Area, and Jack Novelli from Wyoming Seminary were picked for the Division 2 second team.
Jim Lavan from Wilkes-Barre Area was named the Coach of the Year for Division 1, while Anthony Macario from Wyoming Area received the same honor for Division 2.
