People in South Okanagan who need advanced medical care will now be helped by the addition of a second high-tech CT scanner at Penticton Regional Hospital.
“Getting a second CT scanner at PRH is a key part of our plan to improve efficiency and better assist patient care in the South Okanagan – Similkameen area,” said Susan Brown, president and CEO of Interior Health, in a press release.
“This innovative new equipment will help provide the best care for our patients' changing needs, increasing access and reducing wait times for this important diagnostic service.”
The scanner was purchased with a $3 million contribution from the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, a $2 million contribution from the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Hospital District, and the Interior Health Authority will cover the equipment's operation costs.
The two scanners will help handle the growing demand and reduce wait times and scheduling conflicts for scans, according to Interior Health.
A CT scanner is a diagnostic tool that uses X-rays and advanced computer technology to create detailed images of internal structures and organs. It's an advanced imaging procedure that uses a rotating X-ray tube, electronic sensors, and powerful computers to create cross-sectional images.
