The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has taken control of over 1.5 tonnes of cocaine from a shipping container that was supposed to go to Europe at the Port of Halifax.
According to the CBSA, it was informed on March 4 by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations about the suspicious shipping container from California.
“After that, CBSA Intelligence started monitoring the container as it traveled to Canada,” the agency stated in a news release on Tuesday.
On March 6, the container was inspected at the port in Halifax.
“Border services officers performed a thorough search, resulting in the discovery of 1,556 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside the container,” the release mentioned.
The value of the confiscation is estimated to be around $194 million.
The evidence has been given to the RCMP for the investigation.
