The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Funsho Adegboye, stated that the police force is getting closer to the kidnappers of the chairman of the People's Democratic Party in the state, Dr Tony Aziegbemi.
Aziegbemi was taken by armed men on Friday at around 11pm on Idaro Street, off Country Home Road, Benin, Edo State.
After leaving a meeting at the Government House and heading home in his car, he was ambushed and kidnapped in front of his driver, who was trying to navigate a speed bump.
Adegboye, while addressing reporters on Monday and presenting some suspects, revealed that the police are actively pursuing the kidnappers.
He explained, “We have increased our patrols. On Sunday, we were in the creeks near Ologbo, Obayantor, and other areas of the region.
“We are leaving no stone unturned and are already pursuing those responsible for this crime. I can assure you that we will rescue him unharmed very soon.”.
However, the CP emphasized that the police force does not show favoritism towards any kidnapping victim or prioritize one over others.
He added, “Crime is crime, every victim is important. It's important to understand that we treat all victims equally. We don't want to categorize victims as more significant than others.
“The state governor, Godwin Obaseki, is backing us in this effort. No victim is more important than another. That market woman is just as important as any other victim.”
