A motorist known as Akeem Adeniyi, who reportedly drove dangerously and caused the deaths of three individuals, was brought before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja to face legal proceedings on Monday.
Adeniyi is being charged with four offenses related to unintentional killing, driving in a careless or risky manner, and causing fatalities by the government of Lagos State.
The government's prosecuting attorney, Titilayo Olarewaju-Daud, informed the court that the accused committed the crimes on February 8, 2019.
Olarewaju-Daud told Justice Modupe Nicol-Clay that the incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Akindele Street in the Amukoko area of the state.
She also mentioned that Adeniyi operated a Lexus Jeep with license plate KRD 589FF in a dangerous manner and led to the death of a 57-year-old woman, Mary Akinfenwa.
Additionally, she stated that the defendant also caused the death of an eight-month-old named Princewill Ideye on the same day, at the same time, and in the same location.
Adeniyi was further implicated in the reckless driving that resulted in the death of an unidentified individual.
The prosecutor explained that these actions violated Sections 51 and 52 of the road transport sector law of Lagos State 2018.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defendant's legal representative, Mr. Lekan Egberungbe, informed the court of a bail application for the defendant.
As a result, the judge postponed the case until April 30, 2024, to review the bail request.
On Monday, Adamu Francis, a robber, was sentenced to 38 years in prison for robbing a woman named Ajoke Illiasu.
The robber seized the victim's jewelry, wristwatch, bank ATM cards, 50,000 Naira in cash, and forcibly removed her clothing while brandishing a gun and iron rod.
