WILKES-BARRE — A space heater connected to an extension cord that was connected to a power strip caused a fire at 29 Frederick St., Wilkes-Barre, on Saturday, according to City Fire Chief Jay Delaney.
City firefighters arrived quickly and put out the fire.
Firefighters from the Kingston-Forty Fort Fire Department helped at the scene.
An investigation found that the fire was caused by a space heater connected to an extension cord that was connected to a power strip and plugged into an electrical outlet, Delaney said.
No one was injured.
Delaney recommended plugging space heaters directly into a wall electrical outlet without using other electrical devices. Space heaters should not be plugged into an extension cord and should be kept at least three feet away from flammable materials such as curtains, bedding, and furniture.
