Saskatchewan and Ottawa have announced a deal to put more than $560 million into the province's health system. They believe this will help reduce wait times and improve access to health services.
Almost $391 million is part of an agreement to support Saskatchewan’s three-year action plan for improving health care. three-year action plan to improve health care by creating better access to services, including acute and urgent care, and to reduce backlogs.
It will also increase access to mental health and substance use support that respects different cultures.
More than $169 million from a separate agreement will be allocated to Saskatchewan’s five-year plan to improve care for seniors in their homes, communities, and long-term.
A year ago, Ottawa announced $196 billion in funding over the next 10 years to improve health care access, using tailored agreements to address specific needs in different areas over a decade.
Most provinces have already agreed to the plan.
