A man from Plains Township who broke into two gas stations because he needed money as he was going to be a father, and later worked with two others to sneak illegal items into the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, was given a state prison sentence on Monday.
John Mosier, 36, last known address Pocono Mobile Home Park, was given a prison term of two years, three months to four years, six months by Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas. He was convicted on two counts of burglary and one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance while in jail.
According to court records, Mosier robbed the Exxon service station on Bear Creek Boulevard in Bear Creek Township at around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2022, and then raided the Liberty Exxon on East End Boulevard, Plains Township, around 1 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2022. Pennsylvania State Police at Wilkes-Barre revealed that video evidence of the Bear Creek Township burglary showed Mosier, a bald man, smashing a front window, taking cash from a register, and making a quick exit.
Shortly after the Bear Creek Township break-in, Plains Township police stated that Mosier used a pipe wrench to break a glass window at Liberty Exxon. He then took several rolls of coins and a cash drawer before fleeing.
Mosier was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals and Pennsylvania State Police fugitive task forces.
Following his arrest, Mosier confessed to the break-ins, explaining that he did it because he needed money as he was about to become a father.
While imprisoned at the county correctional facility on April 24, 2023, Mosier conspired with Susan Shaffer, 40, and Kayshawn George, 19, to get marijuana into the facility using a slingshot.
Shaffer and George were involved in propelling a package of marijuana into the facility's yard using a slingshot while Mosier was there, according to court records.
Shaffer received an eight-month prison term, and George got one year and six months to two years imprisonment for their roles in the contraband operation.
