Soo Hugh, the person in charge of Apple TV+’s 'Pachinko' show, “Pachinko,” has agreed to a long-term contract with the streaming service and the production company Media Res.
The agreement will cover Hugh’s ongoing work on leading “Pachinko” as well as new projects from the creator through Hugh’s recently announced production company, Moonslinger Productions. Margo Klewans will be the president of Moonslinger.
“For the last six years, I’ve been lucky to be part of the creative family at Apple and Media Res. Together, we aimed high, and I am excited to continue collaborating with many individuals I respect and value. Now, the return home is official,” Hugh said in a statement to press.
In addition to “Pachinko,” Apple TV+ and Media Res have previously teamed up on “The Morning Show.”
Hugh currently serves as the showrunner, executive producer and writer of the TV series adaptation of “Pachinko.” Based on the book of the same name by Min Jin Lee, the multi-decade story follows the lives of one family across multiple generations. Featuring war, peace, love and loss, the expansive narrative is told in three languages — Korean, Japanese and English.
The series made its debut in March of 2022 and was given the green light for a second season. The release date for the new installment on the streaming service is currently unknown.
Before leading the Gotham and AFI Award-winning “Pachinko,” Hugh was the co-showrunner for the well-received initial season of AMC’s “The Terror.” She also penned and developed “The Whispers” for AMC and was a writer for Netflix’s “The Killing.”
As for Klewans, the new president of Moonslinger Productions, she previously worked at Universal Content Productions where she supervised projects like “Joe vs. Carole,” the revival of “Battlestar Gallactica” and “Lockerbie.” Earlier, she also served as co-executive producer on “Shadowhunters” during her time at Constantin Film.
