On Monday, Bola Tinubu met the Edo State APC leadership at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting was to address ongoing disagreements in Edo APC and officially hand over the party's flag to its candidate for the September 2024 governorship elections. Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, were presented with the flag.
The APC Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, led the delegation to the Villa.
Although the specifics of the closed-door talks are unclear, it was learned that Idahosa was requested to withdraw his court case against Okpebholo’s candidacy.
The primary election, in which Okpebholo became a candidate, has been surrounded by controversy.
Uzodimma's committee initially declared Idahosa as the party's nominee.
In the first round of voting, Okpebholo, Idahosa, and Dekeri all claimed the party’s governorship ticket.
As a result, the party’s National Working Committee deemed the exercise inconclusive due to multiple irregularities.
Okpebholo eventually won with 12,433 votes in the February 23 re-run.
Also in attendance were Senator Adams Oshiomhole from Edo North Senatorial District, and former Edo South Senator, Matthew Urhoghide, among others.
