Jury selection is expected to start today in the trial of a man accused of killing a Toronto police officer nearly three years ago.
Umar Zameer faces first-degree murder charges in the killing of Const. Jeffrey Northrup.
Northrup, 55, passed away on July 2, 2021 after being hit by a vehicle while responding to a report of a robbery in a parking lot at Toronto City Hall.
Another undercover officer also sustained injuries.
Northrup served for 31 years in the Toronto Police Service.
Zameer was granted release on bail in the autumn of 2021, but the rationale for the decision and evidence presented in court are subject to a standard publication ban.
