Gunmen believed to be members of cult groups, on Saturday, killed a printer named George Sopruchi at Abakiliki Street in the Mile 1 area of Diobu in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
It was reported that the gunmen followed their target to Abakiliki Street around 8:30 pm and fatally shot him while he was conversing with someone.
This occurred approximately 72 hours after an individual suspected to be a member of a cult group shot and killed a man along the Nanka/Lumuber area of Diobu.
An eyewitness stated that the gunmen took his motorcycle and one of his mobile phones.
An individual who did not want to be named said, “It was similar to what happened three days ago when some individuals from cult groups followed a man to Nanka/Lumumba, where he went to buy noodles and killed him.
“The situation in Diobu is becoming frightening. The police should be more vigilant so that people can feel safe here.”
The spokesperson for the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the killing at Nanka/Lumuber Street last Thursday and stated that the investigation is ongoing to apprehend the culprits who are on the run.
Attempts to contact the state police spokesperson regarding the latest incident were unsuccessful, as she did not answer calls made to her mobile by our reporter.
She had not responded to a text message sent to her mobile as of the time of filing this report on Sunday afternoon.
