Nigeria expressed sympathy to the Republic of Ghana for the loss of its High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa, on Sunday.
Bawa passed away in Abuja on Thursday after a short illness.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Francisca Omayuli, the Federal Government mentioned that the late Bawa will be greatly missed.
The Federal Government of Nigeria sadly sends its condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana for the loss of H.E. Rashid Bawa, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, on Thursday, 14th March 2024, in Abuja after a brief illness.
The late High Commissioner was a skilled diplomat who made significant contributions to strengthening the enduring and strategic relations between Nigeria and Ghana.
His diplomatic skills and sincere dedication to promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between the two sister countries, during his tenure as Ghana’s principal representative in Nigeria, will always be valued. He will be greatly missed.
“May his soul rest in peace, and may God give the grieving family, the government, and the good people of Ghana the strength to bear the irreparable loss.”
President Nana Akufo-Addo appointed Bawa as high commissioner to Nigeria in 2017.
Bawa served as Ghana’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2008 and was a Ghanaian politician, diplomat, and member of the New Patriotic Party.
He represented the Akan constituency in the Ghanaian parliament from 2001 to January 2005 as an independent candidate.
