Wyoming Seminary, the two-time defending District 2 Class 2A champions, started their season strongly on Saturday by winning 23-9 against Bellefonte on the road.
Jack Herron scored the most with 10 goals for the Blue Knights, and Matt Swartz contributed six goals and the most assists, five. Eight different players scored at least once for Sem.
Jagger MacDonald managed to save nine shots for the Blue Knights.
SOFTBALL
Hanover Area won against Weatherly with a score of 12-1
Caitlin Vigorito achieved the win on the mound in a complete game, while also bringing in two runs at the plate as Hanover Area triumphed in five innings. Vigorito only allowed four hits and struck out eight to secure the win.
The Hawkeyes got 19 hits, with 13 different players contributing at least one hit.
COLLEGES
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Misericordia emerged victorious against Wilkes with a score of 3-0
The Cougars were led by Jared Piontkowski, who achieved the most kills in the match with 16, in a 25-19, 25-21, 25-20 victory over Wilkes at the Anderson Center. Gannon DeFrain provided 33 assists, two blocks, and an ace in the win.
Noah Taylor achieved seven kills and 11 digs for the Colonels.
BASEBALL
Colonels split twinbill
Wilkes initially won 11-5 in their first Landmark Conference matchup and then split a doubleheader with Drew, with Drew winning the second game 3-0.
Mike Show, Vrabel, and Zach Luksic all drove in multiple runs and doubled to lead the offense in the first game. But the Colonels couldn’t replicate their performance in the second game as they were limited to four hits, with two from Nathan Loch.
Arcadia achieved an 11-10 victory against Misericordia
While trailing by five runs in the ninth inning, the Cougars managed to reduce the deficit to one before the rally fell short in their MAC Freedom opener.
Connor Maryniak led the efforts for a comeback with a three-run homer in the ninth. He ended with three hits and four RBI. Joe Comins was 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Brock Bollinger and Jason Sanfilippo both contributed two hits.
SOFTBALL
Wilkes lost both games in a doubleheader
The Colonels narrowly lost both games in a doubleheader in Reading, being defeated by Penn State Berks with scores of 4-3 and 3-2.
Haylee Calaman, Hayden Calaman, and Hannah Boyd each managed to achieve two hits in the first game. In the second game, Hana Cross scored both of Wilkes' runs with a pair of solo homers.
Cougars won both games in a doubleheader
Misericordia traveled to Arcadia to start MAC Freedom play and came away with victories in both games in a doubleheader, winning 9-6 and 4-3.
In the first game, Nikki Elliott hit a two-run double and Emily Susanj added a bases-loaded double as part of a six-run third inning. In the second game, Kaitlin Redling achieved two hits and Susanj managed a two-run double.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Juniata defeated Misericordia 18-12
Genevieve Montanye finished with five goals and two assists while Michelle Torzilli added four goals and one assist as the Cougars lost a non-conference game against undefeated Juniata.
Rachel Shook surpassed 100 career points while scoring twice and setting up five goals.
Alvernia dominated King’s with a score of 18-1
The Monarchs fell behind 14-0 at halftime in a road defeat.
Maria Schneider scored the only goal for King’s.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Hood defeated Wilkes with a score of 12-8
The Colonels attempted a comeback but couldn’t recover from a 9-0 deficit in a non-conference loss on the road.
Tim Hartka ended with one goal and three assists. Austin Sosnovik scored two times.
OUTDOOR TRACK
Cougars participate at W&L
Alexandra Snyder achieved victory in the javelin and Grace Morningstar secured first place in the 800 to lead the Misericordia women’s team on the second day of the Washington & Lee Carnival in Lexington, Va.
On the men’s side, Owen McGuffey established a new school record in the 110 hurdles, completing the race in 15.58 seconds.
