•Rangers are hosting Lobi as the competition for the top four teams intensifies
Gbenga Ogunbote, the head coach of Shooting Stars, will face his previous team, Remo Stars, in a match of the Nigerian Premier Football League today. The game will take place at Adamasigba stadium, southwest of Nigeria, according to SUNDAY PUNCH Extra.
Ogunbote’s team enters the game in good form, having not lost in their last five league matches with three wins and two draws. They have also been unbeaten at home against Remo in their last three meetings, with all games ending in 1-1 draw.
The performance of the Oluyole Warriors in the league has resulted in them reaching seventh place in the NPFL standings. Ogunbote is confident that his players will do their best to achieve their first topflight victory over Remo Stars.
3SC have not managed to defeat Remo Stars in their last seven matches since 2017, losing three and drawing four.
Ogunbote stated, “The match against Remo Stars is special because it is a local derby and the outcome could go either way. However, we will give our all to ensure a positive result.”
“I always emphasize the need for a fair playing field. It will be a tough game, but I believe we can maintain our good form in front of our home supporters,” Ogunbote added.
Meanwhile, Remo Stars will be aiming for their second consecutive win after defeating Enyimba 1-0 last Wednesday.
The Sky Blue Stars will be eager to secure another victory against their opponents, having won 3-0 in the previous encounter.
Currently, Daniel Ogunmodede’s team holds the fourth position with 42 points from 24 matches.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Rangers will host Lobi Stars, who are currently at the top of the league. Rangers aim to continue their unbeaten run of seven games against Lobi Stars and have also not lost in their last five league games.
Fidelis Ikechukwu’s team is currently placed third in the league with 42 points. A win in their 13th league game of the season could potentially propel them to the second position.
At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, Sporting Lagos will aim to replicate their outstanding home performance, which led to a 4-1 victory against Remo Stars last Sunday, when they face Kwara United.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams in a competitive game.
Sporting Lagos previously suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin during their first encounter. The Noisy Lagosians will be determined to even the score in front of their home fans.
Kwara United, on the other hand, will aim for their second consecutive victory after securing a 1-0 win against Bayelsa United last week.
The two teams are separated by two places and two points in the standings, with Sporting Lagos in 13th position with 31 points and Kwara United in 15th place with 29 points.
In Yenagoa, both Bayelsa United and Kano Pillars will strive to end their winless streak when they face each other at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
Struggling with relegation, Bayelsa seeks to end their three-game winless run, while Pillars also aim to secure their first win in their last four league matches, having drawn two and lost two. Pillars’ last victory was a 5-1 triumph over Sunshine Stars in Kano on February 25th.
Pillars were defeated 3-2 by Katsina United and 1-0 by Abia Warriors before having consecutive draws against Rivers United and Enugu Rangers. The Sai Masu Gida are currently in sixth place with 38 points from 25 games and are eight points behind the top team.
In Umuahia, Abia Warriors will play their second home game at the Township Stadium against Sunshine Stars. They lost 2-1 to Sunshine Stars when they played in Akure and have not won in their last two matches against Lobi Stars (1-1) and Heartland (2-0).
Kennedy Boboye will return to Umuahia as Sunshine Stars visit the place where he used to work as head coach of Abia Warriors.
Since returning to Akure, Kennedy Boboye's team has had some impressive results, including a 3-1 win over Plateau United, a 2-0 victory over Lobi Stars, and a draw in Awka against Heartland FC.
In Benin, Bendel Insurance will be playing at home against Doma United. Both teams lost their last game, with Benin Arsenals losing 3-1 in Uyo to Akwa United and Doma United losing their second game at home to 3SC.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers United will aim to return to winning ways as they host Heartland FC. The previous match in Owerri ended in a goalless draw.
They need a home victory to keep their slim hopes of a continental ticket alive. However, they still have three games remaining against Kwara United (home), Remo Stars (away), and Niger Tornadoes (home) due to their involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.
