An unidentified adult male has been confirmed dead after an electric cable drum fell on him at Ojo-Igbede Road in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Online learned that the incident occurred on Thursday while a forklift was transferring armored cables from a container into its body.
According to a police source who spoke to our correspondent on Saturday, the transfer was in progress when one of the cable drums came loose and landed on the victim, who was reportedly walking past the area while using his phone.
The source mentioned that the victim passed away while en route to the hospital.
“A Hiab forklift was moving their company’s armored cables from a container to its body, along Ojo-Igbede road near St. Andrew’s Catholic church.
“Coincidentally, one of the cable drums came loose and struck a passerby, who was said to be using his phone while walking, and he passed away while on the way to the hospital. The scene was investigated by detectives of the Ilemba-Hausa division and inquiries were made,” the police source revealed.
Meanwhile, the company owner has been apprehended for questioning.
“He is being questioned for careless and negligent behavior by failing to put up a sign indicating the inherent danger or hiring a guard to direct other road users away from the area,” the source stated.
