Tomi Lahren made fun of Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News for holding a roundtable on Friday with rapper Fat Joe about reforms for marijuana sentencing, but she acknowledged that legalizing cannabis might help the Democrats win in November.
“They seem to be trying to attract younger voters. Is that the best way to do it and is that the right focus?” questioned “Outnumbered” host Emily Compagno.
“I believe this week has made it very clear that Kamala Harris cannot tackle certain issues like the border, but she can address two things that appear to be very important to Democrats, which are abortion and weed,” Lahren stated. “And that's how the Democratic Party views their voters. They believe those are the issues that will motivate you to go out [to the polls], abortion and weed.”
“Unfortunately, they may be correct. And it could be a successful strategy for the Democrats,” she admitted. “If they can focus on these two issues, it encourages people to vote who might not otherwise. Cannabis and abortion. It's a sad reality, but it may be true.”
Patrick J. Murphy, a former Pennsylvania congressman and lawyer, commented, “The landscape has changed. Many states have legalized medical marijuana, and it's now legal.” He noted that Republican Rep. Scott Perry supports establishing a national standard rather than the current state-by-state approach.
Compagno added, “Yes, reforming sentencing is significant. But is it more important than the hardship Americans are currently experiencing due to inflation?”
In his recent State of the Union address, Biden mentioned that he has asked his cabinet to review the federal classification of marijuana. He also expressed support for “expunging thousands of convictions for simple possession, because no one should be imprisoned for mere use.” He also stated that previous possession charges should be “erased from your record.”
During the White House discussion on Friday, Harris said it’s “absurd” and “unfair” that under current federal laws, “marijuana is considered as dangerous as heroin and even more dangerous than fentanyl.”
