Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. reports that the yearly speed of housing construction in February went up by 14 percent from January.
The national housing organization states that the adjusted yearly rate of housing starts was 253,468 units in February, up from 223,176 in January.
Comparing year-over-year numbers, Toronto saw a 10 percent rise in actual housing starts in February, while Vancouver experienced an 82 percent increase, mainly due to more multi-unit starts.
Montreal's actual starts reduced by nine percent, with both multi-unit and single-detached starts declining.
The yearly rate of rural starts was approximated at 14,835 units.
The average of the monthly adjusted yearly rates of housing starts over six months in February was 245,665, a slight increase of 0.4 percent from 244,638 in January.
