The Turkish coast's local governor's office reported that at least eight migrants died when the boat they were on overturned in the Aegean Sea off the Turkish coast.
It is not yet known where the eight migrants were from. Authorities mentioned that the Turkish coastguard rescued two people, and two others were able to get out of the water on their own.
The boat overturned near Gokceada or Imbros, the largest island in Turkey, situated off the coast of the Canakkale province in the northwest.
The search and rescue mission is currently ongoing, according to officials.
Turkey is currently home to nearly four million refugees, the majority of whom are from Syria.
In 2016, Ankara made an agreement with the European Union to reduce the number of refugees coming in, in exchange for various benefits, including financial aid.
